Midwest Amsterdam

Info

Come to the fourth edition of West’ival to enjoy three days and nights of live music, film, art and workshops in Amsterdam West! It will be the very first winter edition of the festival, Winter West’ival!

The creative hotspot MidWest, around the corner from the Mercatorplein in the Baarsjes, is transformed into a whimsical festival location. While outside the days are getting shorter and darker, it’s wonderfully warm inside: a perfect place to come enjoy art and culture and to be surprised by national and international films, concerts, exhibitions and workshops.

West'ival's aim is to put forward outstanding, intriguing, and unique short and feature films. The festival acts as a podium for young filmmakers and works in collaboration with the Netherlands Film Academy, the EYE Film Institute Netherlands, and various distributors within and outside of the Netherlands. Saturday night’s programme will feature a series of music & sound experience events by artists and musicians from Los Angeles, Paris, Berlin and London! The American artist Doron Sadja lets his audience explore sound, light and space, through his Colour Field Immersion. In addition, Doron Sadja will present the brand new performance Chasing Line, which he has created for West’ival 2016. Matterflow, from Paris, presents a mix of art and technology. The electronic music of Lea Porcelain rounds out the evening. We will be going strong until late! West’ival will also present a photography exhibition and interactive installation. ‘Slowmography’ by David Smeulders is an interactive installation that captures the movements over a chosen timeframe into one intriguing image. ‘Dust Fluff’, by Pavèl van Houten inspects dust under a microscope and gives it an entirely new meaning. Workshops for adults, teenagers and children will also be offered.

West’ival is supported by Stadsdeel Amsterdam West, the AFK (Amsterdam Fund for the Arts), the Baarsjes Inspiration Team and the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Noord-Holland.

The entire programme, with the exception of the concert series on Saturday evening and the two photography workshops, is free of charge.
